About the Event

Changeover Reduction, also known as SMED, is a powerful tool that can be applied to greatly enhance operational flexibility leading to many business benefits.

Applications and benefits of Changeover Reduction include:

  • Increasing available production time through reducing the duration of activities such as:
    • Plant cleanouts and product changeovers
    • Outages and breakdowns
    • Shutdowns and turnarounds
    • Implementation of projects
  • Reducing inventory through smaller economic batch sizes due to reduced product changeover times, leading to improved lead times and increased stock turns

Changeover Reduction is about reducing the amount of time taken to undertake those activities that interrupt production. It is frequently referred to as SMED (single minute exchange of dies) and was fundamental in the development of Lean in the automotive industry. However, the approach can be applied to many situations beyond the original automotive press scenarios.

Our trainer has over fifteen years’ experience of successfully applying Changeover Reduction in the process industries delivering up to 6 and 7 figure benefits for clients through increased production run times, smaller economic batch sizes, reduced inventory, shorter lead times and increased flexibility.

Who is this course for: If you are looking to increase available production time and capacity, minimise stock without increasing risk, reduce factory lead times or perhaps even reduce planned outage durations, this course will be of interest to you. This
