About the Event

Verbal communication is frequently relied upon to transmit information and make requests for action. In a high hazard chemical plant, errors in communication can be disastrous.

This course covers methodologies of verbal communication and how to avoid errors in understanding. Included within the course are good practices for formulating questions, relaying information, checking for understanding, making requests of read backs of information and instructions to confirm correct receipt and understanding of same, the protocols used for describing valves, and defining when to speak and when to wait quietly.

The course material is presented primarily in the context of radio communications. However, there is a read across to other forms of communication.

While practical exercises and activities are included in the course, the course is not intended for practitioners. It is aimed at equipping those charged with ensuring competence with the knowledge and approaches to be able write and develop their own communication protocols for their site.

Who is this course for:

It is aimed at site stakeholders who are charged with ensuring communication competencies, such as use of radio protocols, are defined and trained out. The course will provide these people with an understanding of what needs to be addressed and rolled out on their site.
